Partnering with trailblazers
The Friends of the Heysen Trail are the lifeblood of Australia's longest-marked track
In 2018, I set out to conquer the 1,200km Heysen Trail. What started as a fundraising adventure turned into a journey of self-discovery. Inspired by the two-month trek, I found a way to give back, refreshing and refocusing the Friends' brand to better capture the trail's intrepid spirit. As an extension of their marketing committee, I revamped their quarterly magazine, updated promotional materials, and launched their Instagram account. Along the way, I gained an even greater appreciation for the South Aussie icon.
Trailwalker magazine
As Editor, I breathed fresh air into the Friends' 32-page member's magazine. Working with an Editorial sub-committee, I modernised the layout, adding trail-inspired features like an SA-themed quiz and 'Ask a Hiker' Q&A. My highlight? Publishing the 35th-anniversary edition – a showcase of 35 community-sourced images, each highlighting a chapter of the Heysen's enduring legacy.

Friends' Instagram
I launched the Friends' Instagram to promote their hard work and the adventures of real hikers. The approach was simple: celebrate the people who walk it. By reaching out to the thousands who roam this iconic slice of South Australia, I built a community-driven platform, inviting walkers to gather around the digital campfire.
