Animations for children's mental health
Bringing Emerging Minds' characters, diagrams, and artworks to life balanced creativity with care, turning data-driven research into learning experiences.
How I get through tough times
I was handed a series of child-made plasticine artworks with a simple brief: scan and upload. But with a nudge to get creative, I transformed the static creations into playful animations. Layering in sound effects and voiceovers, I set in motion a frolicking dolphin, scrawling paintbrush, spinning scissors, sliding books and a parade of cute critters.
Parent-child relationship loop
The organisation's Parent-child relationship loop animation needed to streamline its message and sync with the brand. I helped refine the previous script to highlight key ideas, freshened the colour palette, simplified the icons, and cut in emotive imagery to connect. Collaborating closely with the organisation's subject matter experts ensured the animation stayed on message.
Disclosures of child sexual abuse practice paper
Emerging Minds' practice paper Working with children to prevent self-blame after disclosures of child sexual abuse required considered animations, given the sensitive topic. I consulted with the script and designed simple characters with subtle movements to demonstrate clear, accessible practice methods.
Youth Voice series
Emerging Minds' external filming contractor enlisted my help to finalise the graphics for the Youth Voice series, a trio of child-led mental health videos. I produced a collection of introduction animations, supporting visuals, and text templates, helping to blend the children's imagination with their powerful voices.
Our Woven Ways
To introduce the Our Woven Ways online course, I animated bulrush reeds threading between handwoven baskets, symbolising connections within First Nations families and communities. Paired with an elder-recorded voiceover, this piece evokes strength and resilience in coping with adversity.
Understanding brain development
The five-hour Understanding Brain Development online course needed a detailed introduction to guide learners through the material. I designed a clean, concise opener that blended different media for a clear and engaging experience.
